Ziplining in Cape Town – EVERYTHING You Need to Know

Last Updated on March 22, 2026 by Hannah Stephenson

Thinking about ziplining in Cape Town? Stay tuned for the lowdown!

This 7-zipline course takes you zooming around the lush Constantia Valley, and delivers amazing mountain views alongside plenty of adrenaline. It’s definitely one of Cape Town’s best adventure activities, so in this blog I’ll share everything you need to know about this exciting experience. Let’s get into it!

Quick Overview
Price: R1,050
Location: Constantia
Duration: 2 hours
Total distance: 2.3 km
Rating: 5 stars (check 4,400+ reviews here!)

1. Where is Cape Town’s Zipline Course?

The zipline course is in the Constantia Valley, which is about a 25-minute drive from the city center, and it borders Table Mountain National Park. The adventure starts at Silvermist Wine Farm, where we climbed into a 4×4 with our guides and headed out to the start point.

2. How Much Does the Zipline Cost?

Currently, the zipline costs R1,050 per person, but you can double check that here! We booked our tour through Viator, which has a lowest price guarantee, so if you get a better quote elsewhere, they’ll refund you the difference!

3. What Is the Experience Like?

We booked our zipline tour for 1:30 pm, and we arrived at Silvermist about 20 minutes early to check in. We met our guides, Pam and Mesuli, who were awesome just FYI, and geared up with helmets, harnesses, gloves, and the like. Then, we climbed into a 4×4 for a slightly hair-raising ride up the mountain. The tracks are pretty steep and narrow in parts, so the ride is definitely part of the fun!

We got to the first zipline and received some more safety instructions before we started whizzing around the valley. Honestly, we were all pretty nervous seeing just how high up we were – it definitely looked more dramatic in person than in the photos we saw on Viator!

My friend, Sophie, is afraid of heights so Mesuli actually went with her for the first zipline as she was feeling a bit shaky. I don’t really share that fear but I must admit I was a bit nervous! However, there’s no freefall involved, so once I had conquered the first two ziplines, I actually felt super confident for the remaining five.

It was also a huge rush. The views were stunning, and we got to admire Table Mountain from a ton of different angles. And the ziplines are pretty long, totalling 2.3 kilometres, so you really do get some speed up as you fly from point to point!

Between ziplines, there were a few sections where we had to briefly climb up the mountainside. I quite enjoyed this, but it’s just something to be aware of.

Pam and Mesuli also brought a backpack full of water bottles with us. They were numbered, so we each had our own and they handed them out whenever we needed a drink.

All in all, this experience was so much fun. I loved seeing a different side of Constantia beyond its wine farms (as much as I love them!)

We were on SUCH a high afterwards, and we all felt very proud of ourselves. Then, we walked over to Beau Constantia for some celebratory wine.

3. How Long Does the Zipline Tour Last?

It lasts for 2 hours in total, including the 4×4 ride to the mountain and back. Of course, the exact duration will vary how big your group is. We had seven people in total and it took pretty much 2 hours exactly!

4. How Scary Is the Zipline?

I won’t lie to you, we were quite scared at first, but it was actually fine! Pam and Mesuli each went with Sophie and Georgia at first as they were super nervous, which I think they found quite reassuring.

Of course, that meant I had to go it alone! My heart was beating pretty fast when I stepped up to that first platform, but there’s no free fall and so once I got going, I felt great! Zooming along the ziplines was so much fun and I loved the views.

5. What to Wear to Go Ziplining in Cape Town?

We all wore activewear for our ziplining adventure, including full or ¾ length leggings. You definitely want something that comes down to your knees at least, so that you don’t get any friction burns from the harness.

Closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Since there’s a little bit of hiking between some of the zipline platforms, I highly recommend wearing trainers with decent grip. And black clothes are a good idea, as there’s quite a lot of dust on the mountain!

It’s also a good idea to bring a small bum bag or sling bag to pop your phone in. This way, you can snap photos and videos, but it has to be a bag that you can attach very close to your body.

And last but not least, wear sunscreen! The Cape Town sun is strong and there’s not a lot of shade on the course.

6. When is the Best Time to Go Ziplining in Cape Town?

The zipline course is available throughout the year, although summer is the most popular time to go. Just be sure to book at least a week in advance if you go during summer. Take this up to a few weeks if you’re going in late December or early January.

Spring and autumn are also good seasons for ziplining, as it’s not as hot. Winter is fine, too, but just be aware that your tour might get cancelled if there’s too much rainfall.

Sometimes, the zipline course gets cancelled due to high winds. This can really happen at any time of year but it’s most likely during the summer. For that reason, I suggest booking the experience early on in your trip so that you’ll have time to reschedule if necessary.

7. Can You Take Photos on the Zipline Course?

Yes, you’ll need a bum bag or sling bag to store it in. You’re not allowed to hold your phone and capture footage while on the zipline, either. Sophie wore a sling bag and we put our phones in that, then took it in turns to take photos and videos of each other.

8. What Are the Age and Weight Limits for the Zipline Course?

Kids aged 6 and up are welcome on the zipline course. As far as I’m aware, there’s no upper age limit!

As for weight, the maximum limit is 120 kg. That’s 264 pounds, or 18 stone and 12 pounds for my fellow Brits!

9. How to Get to the Zipline Course?

The zipline course starts at Silvermist in Constantia, which is roughly a 25-minute drive or Uber ride from central Cape Town. There’s free parking at Silvermist if you decide to drive. We took an Uber there and back.

10. Tips Before You Go Ziplining in Cape Town

  • Book in advance – the zipline course often sells out, so be sure to grab your spot in advance!
  • Tie your hair back – Ladies and long-haired gentlemen, I’m sure you already know that you do NOT want your hair getting caught in the zipline! The guides provide hair nets to go under your helmet, but it’s a good idea to have a hair tie or two to keep your locks securely tucked away.
  • Go early in your trip – The experience requires good weather, so don’t leave it until the last minute! Book it towards the start of your trip to ensure that you still have time to do it if you have to reschedule due to rain or high winds.
  • Don’t wear loose items – You don’t want your clothing or jewelry to get stuck in the zipline, or end up at the foot of the Constantia Valley, so I recommend leaving them at home.
  • Wear sunscreen – The zipline course is exposed with little shade, so be sure to protect yourself from the sun.
