Eikendal Lodge: A Beautiful Wine Estate Stay in Stellenbosch

Last Updated on March 14, 2026 by Hannah Stephenson

Ever wanted to stay on a wine estate in Stellenbosch? Allow me to introduce you to Eikendal Lodge.

Eikendal Lodge at Eikendal Vineyards offers an idyllic stay in the Stellenbosch wine region, about 20 minutes from the town itself. Its gorgeous Cape Dutch cottages house nine rooms with their own private terraces. If you’re looking for a serene stay in the Cape Winelands, look no further!

I recently stayed at Eikendal Lodge, so now I’m here to share my honest thoughts and help you decide whether it’s the right wine farm stay for you. Let’s go!

Eikendal Lodge Quick Overview
Location: Stellenbosch, 20 minutes from the town centre
Style: Rustic farmhouse chic
Best for: Couples and families
Rooms: Spacious bedrooms with private terraces
Facilities: Swimming pool, pool house garden, trust bar, restaurant, tasting room
Price: From R3,600 per night

How Much Does Eikendal Lodge Cost?

Rooms at Eikendal Lodge typically start from around R2,300 per night, depending on the season and room type.

For example, a twin room in the off-season might cost around R3,600 per night, but that same room would cost around R6,500 during the peak summer season. These prices are based on two people sharing – rates are slightly cheaper for a solo stay. You can compare prices here!

For a wine estate stay in Stellenbosch, the price is actually very reasonable! Many vineyard stays in the area are significantly more expensive, especially the well-known luxury estates.

When I take into account the spacious rooms, beautiful vineyard setting, included breakfast, and complimentary wine tasting voucher, I really do feel Eikendal offers fantastic value for money.

Where is Eikendal Lodge?

Eikendal Lodge is in the Stellenbosch wine region. It’s a rural, secluded stay, so it’s about a 20-minute drive from the town centre – give or take a few, depending on traffic! And to be honest, a stay in Stellenbosch is all about the wineries anyway.

The lodge is part of the Eikendal wine estate, and it took us about 5-10 minutes to walk from our room down to the tasting garden and restaurant.

Best of all, there are some fantastic wineries dotted around. The beautiful Peter Falke wines is just a 5-minute drive away, and Waterford is about 10 minutes away.

It’s also about 7 minutes from the Root44 Market, which is now the starting point for the hop-on hop-off Stellenbosch wine tractor

What Are the Rooms Like at Eikendal Lodge?

Beautiful!

When Sophie and I got into our room, our first words were “wow”.

The rooms here are more like suites, really. They’re super spacious with huge (and VERY comfy) beds, sofas, and desks. I loved the farmhouse-style decor as it felt super welcoming, and the bathroom was absolutely beautiful. In fact, I think it was bigger than a studio apartment that I once lived in!

The air-con was nice and powerful, which is very important to a chronic overheater like me – especially in Stellenbosch, where summers can be pretty sweltering.

I think what stood out the most, though, was the amount of thoughtful little touches dotted around the room. From pillow chocolates and a complimentary wine tasting voucher (result) to the Amanda-Jayne toiletries (an amazing local luxury brand, just FYI) in the bathroom, we were very impressed.

What is the Property Like?

The Lodge

The Lodge itself is made up of 9 spacious rooms, and each one has a private terrace area looking out onto the lush gardens and vineyards.

Then, there’s a swimming pool surrounded with sunbeds and umbrellas. Best of all, there’s a poolhouse, with spotlessly clean showers and changing rooms (replete with those amazing-smelling toiletries once again). This meant that on the day we checked out, we were able to hang around and enjoy the pool, then shower and change afterwards so that we were clean and dry for our onward travels.

We also loved the breakfast room and garden, where we were greeted with a scrummy spread each morning – but more on that in a moment. There’s also a trust bar in the main building, where you can grab drinks and snacks whenever you like. And if you like the toiletries in the bathroom, you can also purchase them here.

The Wine Estate

Tasting room and restaurant

Eikendal is a working wine estate, replete with an Italian restaurant and tasting room. And of course, during the summer months, most guests opt to eat and drink outside in the garden, in front of the reservoir. The sunsets we caught here were absolutely gorgeous!

Naturally, we were keen to cash in our complimentary tasting voucher, so we did an evening tasting in the garden. The tasting room stays open until 7 pm which is later than a lot of wineries. This worked perfectly for us because we explored some nearby wineries during the day and then came back for another tasting in the evening – bliss.

Even if you don’t stay at Eikendal, I definitely recommend coming for a tasting. The rosé in particular is absolutely gorgeous – if anything, it goes down a bit too easily. We just kept ordering more!

We also ate at the on-site restaurant, Giovanni’s, several times. It’s right next to the tasting room so it’s easy to combine dinner and a tasting, and the vibe is very laid back. There’s an outdoor kids’ play area and we saw lots of families enjoying their evening together.

I really loved the food here. On the first night, I had a salad with lots of avo and blue cheese, and the second night I had a gorgeous tomato pasta. It was just what I needed after a full day of wine tasting!

Cellar tour

We were also lucky enough to go behind the scenes and see how all of the wine here is made. Our stay at Eikendal coincided with the harvest, so we saw the freshly-picked grapes being loaded up into the crusher and got to sample wine at various different stages of its life cycle.

Anthony, the assistant winemaker at Eikendal, taught us so much about winemaking and his passion for his craft is obvious. This went way deeper than any other cellar tour I have ever done but as far as I’m aware, it’s not currently offered to every guest, so if you’re keen to do this I’d definitely recommend emailing ahead of time to ask.

The grounds

The grounds at Eikendal are absolutely gorgeous. There are beautiful flowers everywhere, and vineyards stretching in every direction. We actually woke up on our first morning here and went for a run! We did a few laps from the lodge through the vineyards and down to the reservoir, and it was just so beautiful – definitely not the kind of run you get to do every day!

How is the Breakfast at Eikendal Lodge?

So good! They really know how to put on a spread – and it’s included with your stay, yay!

Each morning, we woke up to fresh pastries, cured meats, tropical fruits, sourdough, and more! There were big jugs of fresh fruit juice and we were able to order coffee, tea, and cooked breakfast items like scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. I’m getting hungry just remembering how good it was…

What is the Service Like at Eikendal Lodge?

So lovely. I honestly can’t express how wonderful everyone we met was. Roniël gave us such a warm welcome to the property and the head gardener, Devin, helped us with our bags and greeted us so warmly whenever he popped up nearby.

We did the cellar tour alongside the sales manager, Kate, who was a blast to hang out with, and I’ve already mentioned how amazing winemaker Anthony was.

The team here really has something special, and they’ll make you feel right at home.

Who Should Stay at Eikendal Lodge?

EVERYONE.

Just kidding! But honestly, the lodge really does suit travelers of all ages. We saw families both at the lodge and enjoying the restaurant, and this place would make a really romantic stay for couples.

However, I went with a close friend and it worked amazingly for us, too. This is not the place to come for a rowdy, group trip, but for a smaller girls’ trip it would be absolutely ideal. Sophie and I were craving chill time and lots of wine, and we certainly got our wish!

Final Thoughts

I absolutely loved my stay at Eikendal. There’s something so luxurious about staying at a wine estate anyway, but the beautiful accommodation and amazing staff just took it to the next level. Sophie and I both felt really sad to leave because we had such a dreamy few days here. And we’re not the only ones who loved it – check out all of the glowing reviews here

In fact, my mum is promising to come out and visit me in Cape Town next year, and she hasn’t done a winelands stay yet, so my plan is to bring her here! I think she’ll absolutely love it, and I can’t wait to return.
